MR. MO MAJID
Mr. Mo Majid is widely regarded as one of the most highly qualified and established private eye surgeons in Bristol and South Wales, specialising in cataract surgery, premium lens implants, and vitreoretinal surgery. He is often fondly called “Mr. Magic” by many of his patients, and with good reason.
He holds a distinction in the surgical degree of cataract and refractive surgery – a qualification very rarely obtained, and further evidence of his unique surgical skill.
Mr. Majid trained and worked for over a decade at Bristol Eye Hospital, one of the UK’s largest tertiary referral teaching eye hospitals, where he was one of only 5 consultants leading the hospital’s Vitreo-Retinal Service across the South West of England and South & West Wales. He also held several senior leadership positions, including lead for the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) Service, lead for the Medical Retina Service, Admin Consultant for the Retinal Service, and Co-lead of the Supra-Regional Uveitis Service – responsibilities entrusted to very few consultants nationally.
Born and raised in Bristol, Mr. Majid is the most experienced independent vision correction consultant in the city of his birth, having had the honour of setting up the service at Nuffield Bristol Hospital. He has extensive experience with all the latest lens technology – Premium Multifocal, Toric, and Monofocal lenses – and offers Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) surgery for patients looking to reduce their dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
Mr. Majid has advanced skills in managing cataract surgery complications and is the “go-to” consultant for second opinions and complex repairs. His own complication rate is among the best in the country – 0% on the National Eye Surgeons Audit database.
Beyond cataract and vision correction, Mr. Majid is a renowned expert in retinal detachment, macular surgery, medical retina, uveitis, and eyelid surgery, holding Advanced Senior Fellowships across all five disciplines, a breadth of training very few UK consultants can match.
A former Wellcome Research Fellow – one of the most prestigious research fellowships in UK medicine – Mr. Majid has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in internationally recognised journals and served as Primary Investigator on major international clinical trials, including the AVASTIN-ABC and EYEVENSYS trials. He was awarded his PhD from the University of Bristol for his research into macular degeneration.
Because of his extensive training background, Mr. Majid has personally supervised over 50 Senior Trainee Surgeons from countries including the USA, Australia, Singapore, Germany, South America, Italy, the Middle East, Pakistan and India, many of whom now practice as Consultant Eye Surgeons worldwide.
Mr. Majid treats: cataracts, detached retina, macular degeneration, macular holes, diabetic eye disease, orbital disease, glaucoma, eyelid cysts, lacrimal disorders, and floaters. He consults privately throughout the week, with no long waiting lists.
